South West homes and businesses
BT has announced that another 140,000 homes and businesses in the South West will have access to faster broadband by the Spring of 2012.
This will make broadband speeds of up to 20 megabits per second available in five exchange areas. The areas covered will be Glastonbury; Wells; Minehead; Nether Stowey and Wiveliscombe. The faster speeds are to be delivered over copper lines.
This announcement follows one made earlier in the year, that Bridgwater, Wellington, Shepton Mallet, Taunton and Frome would see the roll out of Superfast Broadband - a mix of fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) and fibre to the premises (FTTP) technologies – delivering speeds from 40 to 100 megabits per second.
