During
2006-2007 Connecting Somerset produced a range of free workshops.
These workshops enlightened business owners about owning a
website, Internet culture, search engines, search engine optimisation,
legal and planning issues. Each delegate received a folder
on all areas covered and the workshops have helped many new
and existing website owners to understand the secrets in making
a website successful.
Connecting Somerset’s business adviser for Taunton Deane
has confirmed that the special series of workshops held around
Somerset were for small businesses keen to take full advantage
of internet. According to Andrew Knutt, the new 3 hour ‘Winning
on the Web’ workshops provided a stimulating and informative
insight into all aspects of internet communications and websites.
“Many firms have pounced on the improved availability
of broadband and now have their own websites. But, we’ve
been listening to what business owners have to say about their
use of the internet and it’s clear that many are missing
a few tricks and failing to capitalise fully on the potential
benefits to their bottom lines from e-commerce and websites.
We organised these workshops to open people’s eyes to
the opportunities and provide helpful tips on getting the
most out of today’s communication technologies.”
The workshops took place in Taunton, Wellington, Glastonbury,
Burnham-on-Sea, Cheddar, Bridgwater, and Bishopswood and appealed
to owners of both new start-ups and established businesses.
They covered website development and management, effective
selling on-line, search engine optimisation and marketing
as well as provide the opportunity to obtain face-to-face
advice from experienced professionals.
“All the services and facilities the web has to offer
was highlighted in the workshops,” continues Andrew
Knutt. “We also pointed people towards sites and resources
to help them further develop their internet skills and sales
and provided a comprehensive information pack for all delegates. view
